Active learning groups (ALG) are student-centered sessions that are a core component of our premedical sciences program and medical school curriculum. ALGs are in-person group learning sessions that take place approximately twice per course with the exception of Introduction to Sociology for the Premed Student (SOC 08.121) and Essentials of Psychology (PSY 01.423) at CMSRU. Students will review clinically relevant case-based medical studies in a group environment that fosters collaborative learning, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. These sessions are facilitated by current CMSRU medical students with extensive experience in ALG settings, with the assistance and oversight of the acting content expert (course faculty member). Participation in active learning groups within the Post Baccalaureate program promises to expose students to current novel medical education learning methods and enhance the skills necessary for future scientific endeavors.
