There are many housing options for CMSRU students in and around the City of Camden, including apartments in urban and suburban settings, house rentals, condominiums, and single-family homes.
Living in Camden
The City of Camden has a vibrant housing sector with both new, high-end homes, as well as historic, rehabilitated residences. The Cooper Plaza and Lanning Square neighborhoods are directly adjacent to Camden’s Central Business District, Cooper University Hospital, and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Many students choose to live in these historic neighborhoods for their charm, as well as convenience to the school, hospital, and public transportation. The neighborhood also includes a park, community garden, easy access to car sharing, and the brand new KIPP Cooper Norcross Academy charter school.
The newest addition to the Cooper Plaza and Lanning Square neighborhoods is Cooper Village Apartments. Located directly across the street from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, this community of state-of-the-art residences offers priority leasing for medical students. The one-, two- and three-bedroom units come fully furnished and feature hardwood flooring throughout, energy-efficient appliances, laundry in every apartment, central heating and air conditioning, and more. More information on Cooper Village.
Living outside Camden
No matter where you choose to live while attending CMSRU, the City of Camden is just a short ride away. Southern New Jersey is filled with small suburban towns offering a wide range of housing options, and Center City Philadelphia is directly across the Delaware River from downtown Camden. The New Jersey Transit RiverLINE – the region’s light rail system – offers transportation between Camden and Trenton, opening up a variety of river towns as options for those without cars. In addition, the PATCO High Speed Line offers train service between Lindenwold, NJ, and Center City Philadelphia with 13 train stations between, including the Walter Rand Transportation Center which is only one block from CMSRU.
