About Me
Dr. Mitchell-Williams is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) in Camden, NJ. She has oversight of the medical education program, including curricular development, simulation center activities, library services, and student/faculty assessment. Before this, she was the founding Associate Dean for Diversity and Community Affairs at CMSRU and led efforts to improve the health outcomes for disadvantaged communities through a variety of initiatives, including the creation of a pipeline to medical professions, diversity, anti-racism training, and community service programs. She helped lead CMSRU to national recognition as the recipient of the 2019 - Association of American Medical College's (AAMC) Spencer Foreman Award for community engagement.
Dr. Mitchell-Williams received her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University – College of Engineering. She earned her MD degree from Rutgers University - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS). She completed her residency in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cooper University Health Care based in Camden, NJ, and stayed to become a faculty member for RWJMS on the Camden Campus. Dr. Mitchell-Williams also served as the Assistant Dean for Multicultural Affairs at RWJMS before joining Rowan University in 2010 as part of the founding leadership for the medical school (CMSRU). In the Camden community, she continues to serve not only as a practicing physician, but also as a community volunteer, educator, and advocate for vulnerable populations.
Dr. Mitchell-Williams is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She has a special interest in addressing bias, racism, and health disparities, especially regarding their impact on persons of color, LGBTQ+ communities, and other underserved populations. She has received foundation, state, and federal grant support for diversity and community education programs. She has delivered numerous talks on implicit bias in medicine, micro-aggressions in medical education, and cultural competency. She has received several awards for her commitment to service, including the Crystal Award from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) for her influence and professionalism with youth in the community.
Dr. Mitchell-Williams is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a 2020 graduate of the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program of Drexel University. She serves on the board for several non-profit organizations, including the Camden Coalition for Healthcare Providers and Volunteers of America, Delaware Valley.
