Tyler Maykovich, PhD
About Me
Dr. Tyler Maykovich is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Biomedical Sciences department. He earned his Ph.D. in Anatomy from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2025.
Dr. Maykovich’s research focuses on the development and distribution of anatomy-specific Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs), creating accessible opportunities for students to engage in meaningful laboratory research early in their academic careers. Through these courses and electives, he works to build a more connected learning environment that encourages students to explore scientific inquiry beyond traditional lecture formats. His laboratory interests center on bone development and healing, with a particular focus on the effects of in utero drug exposure. Current areas of investigation include the impact of nicotine, Manzamine-A, and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) on craniofacial growth.
In the classroom, Dr. Maykovich emphasizes student-centered teaching practices that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and applied learning. He integrates clinical correlations and case-based vignettes to deepen students' understanding of human anatomy and its relevance to medicine. He has experience in teaching medical, dental, graduate, and undergraduate students, and brings this expertise into his courses to provide students with a strong foundation in the anatomical sciences. His broader academic interests include curriculum design, expanding research participation, and supporting student persistence in STEM disciplines.
