About Me
Dr Alexandre Hageboutros joined the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Cooper Hospital in July 2004 after graduating from a fellowship program at Temple University and Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Since the beginning of his career, he has been involved in the development of several programs in the following areas: education, research, and clinical services.
He took over the leadership of the Hematology and Oncology fellowship program from 1996 - 2021, and he led the program through several ACGME reviews and successful accreditation of the program. The fellowship program has expanded from three fellows to 9 fellows over the past 25 years. Dr. Hageboutros mentored and guided over the past 25 years several generations of successful oncologists and hematologists, including graduates who are now serving as program directors.
In addition, Dr Hageboutros has been involved in teaching medical students and residents. He developed several board review courses over the years as well as numerous CME programs for primary care, medical oncologists, and nursing staff. He is a member of the executive committee for the Center for Humanism in Medicine at CMSRU.
Since the beginning of his career, Dr Hageboutros developed several investigator-initiated trials and presented his research at international and national meetings, which resulted in publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Journal, and Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He has authored several chapters in medical textbooks. Dr Hageboutros was promoted to the rank of Professor of Medicine at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University in 2012.
Dr Hageboutros co-developed two programs at Cooper University Hospital: a multidisciplinary lung cancer program as well as a GI malignancies multidisciplinary cancer program in collaboration with many other departments in pathology, radiology, surgery, radiation/oncology; he has been leading the GI malignancy program since 2005.
Dr Hageboutros served on the board of trustees for the Samaritan Hospice from 2006-2010.
Dr Hageboutros has been named Top Doctor in the Delaware Valley area by Philadelphia magazine, New Jersey Monthly over the past 18 years, he is a recipient of the Diane Barton MD, Caring Award as well as several teaching awards throughout his career.
Dr Hageboutros published his memoir in 2009: “No More Wars Please, My Journey from Lebanon to America.”
