About Me
Dr. Mulligan leads the Research Division in the Department of Anesthesiology. The major focus of the research is focused on disease states that may alter cardiovascular health. Using echocardiography and the Sphygmocor Xcel devices, the team can quantify changes in cardiac function, vascular aging, and myocardial efficiency. Projects include 1)how the aging of the vascular tree impacts patients kidney function following cardiac surgery, 2) evaluation of non-invasive wearable devices to quantify cardiac function in a manner similar to an echocardiogram, 3) quantifying ventricular-vascular coupling in cardiac-oncology patients, 4) OB patients suffering with hypertensive disorders and projects with the Trauma team involving cardiac function. Other retrospective and prospective projects are also available for medical student’s involvement. Projects involve medical students, residents, and fellows.
Larry received his MS in Exercise Science and Ph.D. in Cardiac and Systems Physiology from Texas A&M. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio and his focus for the past 30 years has been in the cardiac space, including heart failure, LVADs, cardiac computational modeling and fundamentals of cardiac function. He managed post-market human feasibility studies and served as a Medical Science Liaison. He was named a Technical Fellow by Medtronic and a Fellow of the American Heart Association. More recently, he managed the Investigator Initiated Research Program for Integra Life Sciences. He has served as a consultant to several CV-focused medical devices and startup companies.
