Workshop Series

 

Over the course of your 12 months in the program, you will have the opportunity to experience essential communication, management and safety skills, all of which are vital to students preparing for a career in the health profession. As a result, we created a series of workshops that will build upon these skills.

Mock interviews
In order to prepare for medical school interviews, you will have the opportunity to do mock interviews with CMSRU faculty and staff. These mock interviews will allow you the opportunity to practice an interview and to receive feedback on your performance. Additionally, the mock interviews will be video recorded and you will have the chance to review your performance in order to self-reflect upon the process and to identify additional ways that you may improve.

Communication Workshop (Styles of Communications & Skills for Clinic)
There are many different types of communication skills that are necessary for a novice clinician to acquire. In the Simulation Center, you will have the opportunity to work with Simulated Patients (SPs) in order to learn and practice these skills. Some of these communication skills include, but are not limited to, utilizing and decoding body language, opening the patient-clinician encounter and providing information in ways that patients can understand.

Suturing Workshop
Suturing is one of the key skills that medical students learn during their clinical rotations. You will have the opportunity to be introduced to basic suture skills in the Simulation Center. You will practice utilizing the same materials that our third-year medical students do.

Stop the Bleed Workshop
Stop the Bleed is a national initiative to educate the public and motivate bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help during a bleeding emergency prior to the arrival of professional assistance. In most cases, bystanders are the first people to come in contact with an injured person and are best positioned to provide initial care. During this 2-hour session, students will be exposed to didactic and hands-on training for this workshop.

Personal Statement Workshop
Crafting an effective and well-written personal statement is a crucial component in applying to medical school. Our CMSRU Director of Admissions will lead a discussion on common misconceptions and effective strategies when writing a personal statement.
