Advanced Premed Studies Post Baccalaureate
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the deadline for applying to the CMSRU Advanced Premed Program?
We must receive all materials by May 1st for your application to be considered.
I took classes at several universities. Do you need every transcript?
Yes, we require transcripts for every college level course you have taken. The transcripts must be official and come directly from the Registrar’s office. E-transcripts are accepted provided they are official and sent from the issuing institution. Any e-transcripts should be sent to global@rowan.edu
Who is the premed program intended for?
The CMSRU Advanced Premed Studies program is for college graduates who wish to pursue or have attempted a career in medicine but would like to strengthen their professional portfolio. This includes strengthening MCAT scores, undergraduate GPA and well-rounded preparation for the medical school application process.
Can any major apply?
We tend to admit students with science backgrounds but we will consider students from any undergraduate major to apply to the program provided they meet the prerequisites and strongly recommended requirements.
Are there any prerequisites for being admitted to our premed program?
Yes, prerequisites include a BA or BS from an accredited college or university; and 2 semesters of college chemistry with lab. The following are recommended prior to admission: 2 semesters of organic chemistry with labs and 2 semesters of general physics with labs.
How long is the program?
The program is 12 months.
How much does the program cost and are students able to use Federal Financial Aid?
The rate is $900 per credit hour. Students are not eligible for federal financial aid because this is a non-degree granting program and would need to apply for private education loans. This is standard for most Post Baccalaureate programs.
How many applicants are you accepting to the premed program?
The program typically admits approximately 15-25 students.
What type of mentorship can I expect in this program?
Mentoring is a big part of what we do at CMSRU. We have designed a system that gives students access to experienced personnel that will help propel students in their premedical path. Due to our small class size, students are able to receive the attention they need to develop consistency in any area that needs focus. Students work individually with the director to assemble a plan for success throughout the duration of the program including: strategies for MCAT preparation, academic enhancement and strengthening application packages. Students also have the opportunity to receive mentoring via current medical students through student panel discussions and individual meetings with physician mentors.
Upon completion, am I awarded a degree?
No, the Post Baccalaureate program is not a degree-granting program.
When will I know if I have been accepted?
If you are accepted into the advanced premed studies program, you will be notified on or before May 30.
When is orientation?
Orientation for 2021 is TBD. Orientation day will serve as an opportunity to meet important members of the program, introduce yourself to fellow students and learn much more about the program.
Is overnight lodging provided for the orientation?
There are no overnight accommodations. Participants are responsible for and must provide their own transportation.
If I would like to stay overnight in the area, where would I stay?
The Crowne Plaza Cherry Hill and Holiday Inn Cherry Hill are the closest options available. The hotels are approximately five miles from the CMSRU campus.
