Apply to the Accelerated Three-Year Primary Care Track

Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) offers an Accelerated Three-Year Primary Care Track (PC3 track) for motivated students desiring a career in Primary Care Internal Medicine or Pediatrics. Through this program, students complete their undergraduate medical education in three years and then enter their residency training in either Internal Medicine or Pediatrics at Cooper University Health Care. Cooper University Health Care’s 135-year commitment to Camden, and CMSRU’s commitment to patient advocacy, civic responsibility and diversity make us uniquely positioned to train future primary care providers, especially for medically-underserved communities.

Application Process

The initial six steps in the admissions process for candidates interested in the PC3 track are the same as those for regular applicants with the following exception. Candidates interested in the PC3 track should indicate this when completing their secondary application and also provide a short description of their motivation for applying to this program.

Steps One through Six: AMCAS Application and MCAT

Students will follow step one through step six (included below) as for the regular MD Program.

Step Seven: Submit a PC3 Application

Following acceptance to CMSRU, interested candidates should submit an application to the PC3 track, which will be reviewed by faculty of the PC3 track and Cooper residency programs. Students may submit an application even if they did not check the PC3 interest box on their secondary application. Students wishing to apply should submit the following to pc3@rowan.edu:

  • A personal statement (no more than 800 words) that describes your desire to become a Primary Care Internist or Pediatrician and the qualities that make you an excellent choice for the PC3 program.
  • A current curriculum vitae, highlighting any skills and experiences that support your interest in a primary care career.

*Applications for the M1 class entering in 2024 will be accepted after October 15, 2023 through March 18, 2024. Students receiving an acceptance to CMSRU after March 18 will still be able to apply to PC3.*

Step Eight: PC3 Interview

Interested students will be scheduled for an interview with CMSRU and Cooper residency faculty.  Interviews will take place in April of the application year, usually virtually. Candidates are encouraged to visit the campus during one of CMSRU's Open House days.

Step Nine: Selection and Notification

Students will be notified of their acceptance status into the PC3 track shortly after their interview.
