Medical Equipment
It is recommended that students purchase a penlight for their first semester at CMSRU. It is also recommended that during Phase 1 of the curriculum (years 1 and 2) students do not invest in any additional equipment, such as blood pressure cuffs, otoscopes, and opthalmoscopes, as they are expensive and best deferred until later in training. The CMSRU Simulation Lab is fully equipped to allow you to practice using these items.
Required Textbooks
Students are provided with online versions of all textbooks needed for the CMSRU curriculum free of charge.
Student Affairs
Attire
Please refer to the Professional Appearance Policy for guidance on appropriate attire for CMSRU students.
White Coats are provided to each student during the White Coat Ceremony.

Health Insurance
Health insurance is required for all students attending Cooper Medical School of Rowan University.
Health insurance enrollment is facilitated by an online process and must be completed annually by every student. Whether you are selecting the school-sponsored plan or are requesting to waive, your decision must be made annually.
NOTE: If you are currently using or intend to use mental health/behavioral health services, please check policy coverage prior to purchase to determine if your current provider(s) or CMSRU contracted service providers, Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care Student Wellness Program (SWP) is included in prospective health insurance coverage.
Federal healthcare laws require health care policies to provide coverage for dependents up to age 26. Students may also explore their eligibility for public health benefits before enrolling in the Rowan University preferred student health insurance program. We encourage CMSRU students to investigate all available options when determining their choice of health insurance.
Health Insurance Program as offered by Rowan University
CMSRU's student health insurance is contracted as a Gold Plan with Aetna. Information about the plan can be found at www.aetnastudenthealth.com.
- Aetna (Gold Plan) is an "in-network" provider for Cooper University Healthcare.
- The premium is billed 100% on your fall term student bill in addition to fall term tuition and fees.
Please Note: Health insurance premiums increase annually.
The health insurance premium rate for the 2023-2024 academic year is $6,548. Health insurance coverage will be effective from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024.
Waiver/Enrollment will be available after June 15, 2023. To waive or enroll in health insurance, please complete the following waive or enroll procedures.
Waiving the Student Health Insurance Plan
If you are already individually/privately-covered for health insurance and wish to waive this policy and its cost, you must first confirm that you have active health insurance coverage that provides access to health care in the campus area. Once comparable coverage has been determined, please complete the waiver form. Please be sure to have your Banner ID, insurance plan information and insurance card ready when completing your waiver.
Confirming Enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan
If you would like to confirm enrollment in the Student Health Insurance Plan, you may do so by completing the online enrollment form. Please be sure to have your Banner ID available to complete the form. Please note: Although you are automatically charged for the Student Health Insurance Plan during the Fall term, you will not be automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan. You must enroll by completing the enrollment form. We recommend that you enroll as soon as possible to avoid difficulties in accessing your health insurance benefits.
Students will automatically be enrolled in the Aetna Student Health Plan and charged the health insurance premium cost if the CMSRU Waiver Form is not submitted.
Enroll/waive procedures must be completed by July 30, 2023
Students who waive the student health insurance program cannot enroll in the plan at any other time during the 2023-2024 academic year unless they have a life status change (loss of health insurance coverage). Please contact Aetna's customer service at 877-480-4161 or www.aetnastudenthealth.com directly with questions regarding life status changes or any other specific questions you may have regarding this insurance plan.
Alternative Health Insurance Coverage
- As a professional medical student, you may qualify for Medicaid for single students/CHIP for dependent coverage. Please call 1-800-701-0710 for more information or review the state website for NJ Family Care.
Please consider researching all available options on the Healthcare Marketplace.
Seeking Care/Cooper University Health Care
For those students who may choose to use Cooper University Healthcare provider services, please select an insurance plan that provides comprehensive coverage with verification that Cooper University Healthcare is an "in-network" provider, in an effort to reduce future copayment charges. Students are responsible for all co-pay charges, regardless of where they receive care.
Parking 2023-2024
