Professor of Surgery
In his role as Assistant Dean for Clinical Affairs at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU), Dr. Porter assists Dr. Anthony Mazzarelli, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, in overseeing affiliations and interfacing with Cooper University Health Care on clinical affairs matters.
Dr. Porter, a professor of surgery, is head of the Division of Trauma Surgery and director of the Center for Trauma Services at Cooper University Health Care. He earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he also completed his general surgery residency. Dr. Porter completed a fellowship in trauma/critical care at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
In 2023, the New Jersey Department of Health, selected Dr. Porter to serve as the State Trauma Medical Director. This is recognition of Dr. Porter’s expertise, leadership, and experience in the field of trauma care.
In this role, Dr. Porter provides subject matter expertise to assist the leadership of the New Jersey Department of Health in the development and implementation of the Statewide trauma system plan; guides the State Trauma System Advisory Committee’s efforts to plan, develop, and enhance the Statewide trauma system plan; and develops quality assurance standards for trauma care and assist in in the implementation of quality improvement programs for trauma care in New Jersey.
