CMSRU announces new chair of medicine


Stephen Trzeciak, MD, MPH, was appointed Chief of Medicine for Cooper University Health Care and Chair of the Department of Medicine for Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, announced leadership from both organizations.

“The Department of Medicine is the largest academic department at CMSRU, with extensive responsibility for teaching our medical students and a significant amount of extramurally supported clinical research,” notes Annette C. Reboli, MD, Professor of Medicine and Dean. “Dr. Trzeciak’s accomplishments in patient care, research and teaching have been outstanding. I look forward to working with him in his new leadership role and wish him great success.”

Dr. Trzeciak earned his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and his Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He completed his residency training at the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, and his fellowship training in critical care medicine at Rush University Medical Center. He is board-certified in internal medicine, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, and neurocritical care. Dr. Trzeciak is a Professor of Medicine.

A National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical researcher, Dr. Trzeciak has more than 100 publications in the scientific literature, primarily in the field of resuscitation science. His publications have been featured in some of the most prestigious medical journals, including: Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), Circulation, and The New England Journal of Medicine. His scientific program has been supported by research grants from the American Heart Association and the NIH (National Institute of General Medical Sciences and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute), with Dr. Trzeciak serving in the role of Principal Investigator.

Dr. Trzeciak has been a proud member of the Cooper family since 2002. He previously served as the head of critical care medicine at Cooper, beginning in 2013. From November 2017 to December 2018, Dr. Trzeciak served as Interim Chair and Chief of the Department of Medicine. In his new role, he also serves as the medical director for the Adult Health Institute.
