CMSRU appoints Jonathon Rendina assistant dean for research
Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) has named Jonathon Rendina, PhD, MPH, assistant dean for research.
In this role, Rendina will work with Darren Boehning, PhD, CMSRU's associate dean for research, on strategic planning for the medical school's research mission, serve on key leadership committees and track research activities among clinical faculty employed at Cooper University Health Care.
Rendina also serves as vice president of education and research at Cooper University Health Care, where he leads the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, overseeing health systemwide research administration, centralized operations and sponsored programs. His appointment will further strengthen coordination between CMSRU and Cooper University Health Care in advancing their shared research mission.
A national leader in health equity and sociostructural models of stigma, with a specialized research focus on HIV prevention and treatment, Rendina brings an extensive record of academic scholarship and administrative leadership to the joint academic health system. As a principal investigator, he has secured more than $30 million in National Institutes of Health grant funding and authored more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Before joining CMSRU and Cooper, Rendina served as an associate research professor of epidemiology at the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University and senior director of research at the Whitman-Walker Institute. He previously held faculty appointments at Hunter College of the City University of New York and the Fordham University HIV and Substance Use Research Ethics Training Institute.
Rendina earned a doctorate in social psychology and a Master of Public Health degree in biostatistics.
